Hello!
My name is Beth Lee. I am a pastry chef graduated from the International Art
Institute in Santa Monica with a diploma in their pastry program. I have been
making decorated cakes for almost 6 years now, but I have been making sweets for much longer. Growing up, my mother was a Home Econimics teacher for Calle Mayor Middle School in Torrance. She made sure I knew how to cook, although some things I still prefer her to make, such as her cinnamon rolls...Yummy!
While she tried to make sure I knew all the benefits of healthy cooking, I always seemed to gravitate toward the sweeter side of things! In middle school I was making cakes and brownies as often as my mother would let me, (she did try to set limits) and I learned how to make really good frosting! One of my first tries was a total disaster, all lumpy and not enough powdered sugar, so I vowed to make it better!
After I graduated from South High School, I did not enter into pastries right away. I took a lot of art classes. I really love to work with color and different mediums, and I have a very abstract art style. However one day, watching Ace of Cakes and talking to my sister, she said to me, "You should go to pastry school! You love to make desserts, and you're very artistic! I bet you would be great at making cakes."
So after a little light bulb clicked in my head, I decided to go for it. I spent a year at the school in Santa Monica and had the time of my life. I learned, under
some very talented chefs most of whom were French, how to make chocolates, candies, different cakes and tortes, basic pastry skills, etc. After I graduated, I made a decorated cake for a friend's son, and have been decorating cakes every since! I really enjoy making different types of pastries, and I love making different flavor combinations of truffles! (Who wouldn't like to work with chocolate?) I love hearing how people enjoy the desserts I can make for them, and I try to make everything as tasty as possible!
I hope you have enjoyed learning a little bit about me, and please feel free to shoot me an email or contact me through this website with any questions you may have. I look forward to delighting your tastebuds!
